'Leers & Foaming in Latvia' (a not-so-subtle homage to Hunter Thompson) takes place in Latvia during a long weekend with a couple of 'thirty- something' Englishmen who visit a twenty-one year old female friend in her home country. This is a good book for anyone who is interested in modern day Latvia, its history and it's progression from the past into today.The book is well-written and edited, and well-formatted for the Kindle. The author has an easy-going style that makes the book a fast and enjoyable read. My only criticism in this regard is that chapters are broken into very small segments that are preceded by time-of-day headings - a minor annoyance that actually adds little of value to the narrative.
Having written about Latvia myself, with no first-hand experience of the country, it is clear to me that Alex Edeson has done due diligence by visiting Latvia and participating in the life-style that he so obviously enjoyed. I compliment him on his keen insight and clear depiction of the 'strong willed women, vodka and the ghosts of Latvia’s past' that he observed.

Very enjoyable account, nicely mixed with history, geography, architecture, and culture. I recognized all the places I'd just visited, and learned more about them too. And I'm REALLY glad I'm no longer in my 20s and motivated by clubbing, on any continent!
